Diino Internet Desktop has been around for a while. While trying to find a useful reason to have this neat account with all these great features I stumbled upon just that - usefulness.

Diino Internet Desktop provides you with 2GB free space to store, access, share and use your digital documents. With complete privacy. You also get (for free) secure email, an instant blog, and auto-sync from your computer to your Diino storage space. You can even stream your music from any computer where Diino is installed.

The auto sync feature is really nice. It compresses files in the designated folder then uploads them to Diino’s secure servers. Upload speeds are always a little slower so this seemed to take forever. I don’t recommend running other large programs during upload. Surfing is ok, but sites with higher bandwidth requirements will slow you down.

Secure email is available between Diino users. This can be useful if you aren’t able to provide secure email from your site.

The service comes with a blog you can edit from inside the Diino desktop interface. Since blogs are easy to set up and use in lots of different places I don’t see this as one of the suite’s major features. I don’t use the blog myself. File sharing and web drop are both really useful when email just doesn’t allow you to send very large files.

The streaming music feature is ok but uploading MP3 files can be a slow process even using 1Gbps connection. While it has promise as a neat feature I didn’t find it all that useful because my upload speeds were so slow.

Overall, Diino Internet Desktop is a really nice and easy to use suite. My favorite features are secure file storage and folder auto-sync - and the price. Totally worth it!
