13 Nearly Antisocial Ways to Indulge in the Cyberslacking Ritual
Cyberslacking is all the rage. Most folks enjoy the ’social media’ scene, preferring to check myspace or facebook messages during the work day. I used to go to a site called http://www.ishouldbeworking.com. Yeah, great work ethic there. :(
Mine’s up, stop by for visit!
Surely people wouldn’t spend their work time doing that?? ;)
Actually, I have fired ppl for spending their work day online. Most companies can keep an eye on how their employees are spending time on the computer. So its best to be careful :)
Our sys admin actually checks the logs each day just to see what sites folks are going to. We also have vnc installed on every PC to let the owner sighlently see our screens whenever he feels like it! We’ve got night vision video cameras too…
Surfing isn’t an issue here unless it’s excessive, inappropriate, or takes up more time than your work. If you’re always online AND behind you’re in big trouble…
(I try to stay out of trouble by blogging during scheduled breaks and between projects during slow times…)
This got me thinking…I’m a SAHM so I guess I cyberslack a lot…whenever I’m on and the kids are up. They’re in bed now so I’m ok. Just during the day is when I’m like - “in a minute”, after I leave this comment I’ll come…”
heh, I do it too. I say ‘just a minute’… ‘15 more minutes’.
Here’s a positive view on cyberslacking: A friend of mine who is a creative/artistic type personality as opposed to an organized and quantitiative/analytic type enlightened me of it’s virtues. She said that she does not do her best thinking/creating when tied to one spot and forced to focus. When she is given free reign to roam, then ideas flood in and her creativity flows. So obviously there can be valuable inspiration in cyberslacking. :)
