Review: MyFitnessPal.com Free Calorie Counter

Last week I was thinking about my eating habits as I sat alone in the office breakroom. My lunch was a frozen boxed dinner, a bottle of flavored water, and an energy drink. I might have had a chocolate bar too. I sat there freezing under the air conditioner reading labels. I totaled just the calories and found I had not many left for the day if I go by 2,000 as recommended by the FDA. I would be consuming more than that by day’s end. I wondered to myself “what would happen if I actually wrote down everything I eat plus the calorie count?”. I didn’t actually want to write this down in a paper journal that could be left on the table by mistake or forgotten. I certainly didn’t want to take these notes on my cell phone either. I wanted something private and portable.

Earlier this week I discovered MyFitnessPal.com. This is exactly what I was looking for. They have a free calorie counter that’s easy to use. It will automatically calculate the nutritional value for the number of servings you specify. You don’t even need to register to use it, fantastic!

This simple calorie counter is just one feature of myfitnesspal.com. With registration you get access to tools for calorie counting with your own personal food diary, exercise log, forums, and a progress monitor to track your weight and measurements. I registered an account myself and found all these tools to be really helpful in tracking my progress. I was able to register and get started in less than 5 minutes. This site gets my vote, it’s easy AND useful.
